Sam Raimi and Jordan Peele Producing ‘Portrait of God’ Horror Film

Two of horror’s most influential directors, Sam Raimi (Evil Dead) and Jordan Peele (Get Out), are uniting to produce a new feature film. The project is an adaptation of the acclaimed short film Portrait of God, which amassed over 8.7 million views on YouTube. Their respective production companies, Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures and Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions, will oversee the development.

About the ‘Portrait of God’ Adaptation

The feature will expand upon the tense, minimalist horror of the original short, which centers on a religious girl whose beliefs are challenged when she prepares a presentation about a mysterious painting titled “Portrait of God.” The film’s plot is being kept secret, but it will delve deeper into the dark religious themes presented in the source material. The short’s writer and director, Dylan Clark, is set to direct the feature and co-write the script with The Inheritance scribe Joe Russo.

A Competitive Spec Project

According to reports, the Portrait of God adaptation was a hot spec script that generated significant competitive bidding among studios. The involvement of both Raimi and Peele as producers was a key factor in the project securing a deal, signaling strong industry confidence in the film’s potential.
