Andy Muschietti Still Plans ‘IT’ Movie Supercut

Director Andy Muschietti has reignited fan hopes for a definitive six-hour supercut of his two-part Stephen King adaptation, “IT.” While heavily involved in the HBO prequel series “It: Welcome to Derry,” Muschietti affirmed that combining the 2017 and 2019 films into a single, seamless experience is a project he still hopes to execute.

Director’s Supercut Ambition

During a live Reddit Q&A session with his sister and producer Barbara Muschietti, Andy directly addressed long-standing fan speculation. Responding to a question about an extended cut merging both chapters, Muschietti stated, “Yes, still a big dream of mine. Since we’ve been involved heavily in this show we hadn’t had time to execute it. Crossing fingers.” This confirms the director’s personal investment in the idea, though no timeline for its development has been set.

‘Welcome to Derry’ Storytelling Philosophy

The discussion also touched upon the narrative choices in “It: Welcome to Derry.” When asked about the difficulty of writing out popular characters, particularly child actors, Muschietti explained his approach to emotional storytelling. He highlighted the death of a character named Richie as crucial for creating a “tragic love story” designed to touch audiences profoundly. Furthermore, the surprise massacre in the pilot episode was intended to shock viewers and establish that “NO ONE in this world would ever be safe,” creating engagement through unpredictability.
