What's After the Movie

Tim Hodge

Tim Hodge (born April 2, 1963) is an American multi‑talented voice actor, writer, director, storyboard artist, animator and comedian whose career has spanned more than three decades in the world of animation. He first discovered his passion for filmmaking in seventh grade when he uncovered his father's 8 mm camera, using clay and makeshift props to craft short movies during the summer, an experience that sparked a lifelong devotion to storytelling. After graduating from Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Hodge entered the professional arena at Willming‑Reams Animation in San Antonio, Texas, where he spent seven years animating television commercials while simultaneously studying at the San Antonio Art Institute. His growing expertise led him to Walt Disney Feature Animation at the Disney/MGM Studios theme park in Orlando, where he contributed as a story artist on Mulan, the John Henry segment for Disney's American Legends, and Brother Bear. In 2000, Hodge relocated with his family to Chicago to join Big Idea Productions, the studio behind VeggieTales, where he quickly became a key creative force, directing, producing, writing, and providing additional voices for the series. His directorial debut, Lyle the Kindly Viking, earned the Best Direct‑to‑Video Animated Release award at the 2001 World Animation Celebration, and his vocal performance as Khalil in Jonah: A VeggieTales Movie garnered an Annie Award nomination in 2003. Hodge’s versatility extends to projects such as 3‑2‑1 Penguins!, where he served as executive producer, director and concept artist, and his live‑action short Soccer Mom Detective, which placed first runner‑up in a 2008 competition. Today he resides in Franklin, Tennessee, continuing to influence animated storytelling through both traditional and computer‑generated mediums, while mentoring emerging talent in the industry.
