Thea Gill

Thea Gill (born Thea Louise Gill on April 5, 1970) is a Canadian actress and jazz vocalist best recognized for her portrayal of Lindsay Peterson in the groundbreaking Showtime series Queer as Folk. Raised in Vancouver, she attended a private girls' school for twelve years before enrolling at York University in Toronto, where she earned a BFA Honours in Theatre Performance in 1992, laying a solid foundation for a versatile career on stage and screen. Following graduation, Gill moved to Toronto and spent several formative years appearing in theatre productions, guest‑spot television roles, commercials, and independent films, steadily building a reputation for depth and professionalism. Her breakthrough arrived in 2000 when she secured the lead role in Queer as Folk, a part she inhabited throughout the show’s five‑season run, earning critical acclaim and several award nominations for her nuanced performance. In 1 2001 she relocated to Victoria, British Columbia, yet continued to commute to Toronto for filming, balancing her personal desire for a quieter lifestyle with the demanding schedule of a hit series. After the series concluded in 2005, Gill diversified her portfolio with guest appearances on series such as Dante's Cove and continued to act in both television movies and independent cinema, while also pursuing her passion for music. As a singer she has performed as the featured act for the M.S. Carousel cruise ship, held solo jazz engagements at Toronto’s Top o’ the Senator, and contributed a recorded song to the film Eighteen, which garnered a Genie Award nomination. Gill’s personal life has been marked by an early marriage to director Brian Richmond (1993‑2009) and a later partnership with author Gina Glass beginning in 2013, and she has been open about her bisexual identity, using her platform to support LGBTQ+ visibility.
