Sterling Kelby Brown, born on the 5th of April, 1976, is an acclaimed American actor with numerous accolades, including three Primetime Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe. Gaining prominence for his powerful performances on stage and screen, he even earned a nomination for an Academy Award and found a place in Time magazine's 2018 list of 100 most influential people. His first Emmy came from his role as Christopher Darden in the limited FX series The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story (2016). He gained further acclaim with his portrayal of Randall Pearson in the NBC drama series This Is Us (2016–2022) which won him Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. His comedic roles in Brooklyn Nine-Nine (2018) and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (2019) also earned him Emmy nominations. Brown's career includes many film roles such as Hotel Artemis (2019), Honk for Jesus. Save Your Soul (2022), & Biosphere (2023).
Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Brown had a childhood marked by hardship, losing his father at a young age, he transitioned from his nickname Kelby to Sterling when he turned 16. As a student, he fell in love with acting and pursued an acting degree from Stanford University and a Master of Fine Arts from New York University Tisch School of the Arts. After college, he brilliantly showcased his talent in numerous regional theater productions and television shows such as ER, NYPD Blue, and Boston Legal. His career took off with his award-winning roles in The People v. O. J. Simpson and This Is Us. Off-screen, Brown is married to actress Ryan Michelle Bathe, with whom he shares two sons, Andrew and Amaré.
