Stacy Martin (born 20 March 1990) is a French actress and model who first attracted international attention for her daring performance as the young version of Joe in Lars von Trier’s provocative drama Nymphomaniac (2013). Raised in Paris before spending formative years in Tokyo with her French hairstylist father René Martin and her English mother Annette, she returned to France at thirteen and later moved to London to study Media and Cultural Studies at the University of the Arts London while modelling on the side. Her early exposure to diverse cultures and languages informed a nuanced approach to her craft, which she refined through the Meisner technique at the Actors’ Temple. The Nymphomaniac role, which required the use of a prosthetic device and a body double for explicit scenes, earned her nominations from both the Robert Awards and the Bodil Awards, as well as inclusion in BAFTA’s Breakthrough Brits program in 2014.
