Rafi Gavron

Rafi Gavron, born Raphael Pichey Gavron on 24 June 1989 in Hendon, London, is a British actor known for his versatile performances across film and television. Raised in a culturally rich Jewish household, he is the son of American writer Martha Pichey and the late British publisher Simon Gavron, linking him to a lineage that includes the Labour peer Robert Gavron and sociologist Hannah Fyvel. His great‑grandfather, Tosco R. Fyvel, collaborated with George Orwell, while his half‑aunt, Sarah Gavron, is an acclaimed director. Rafi grew up with two younger brothers, Benjamin and Moses, and spent six months volunteering at an Israeli kibbutz in 2008, an experience that deepened his connection to his heritage. From an early age he displayed a keen interest in the performing arts, eventually enrolling in acting workshops that honed his physical agility, a skill later showcased in his breakout role.

His on‑screen debut arrived in 2006 with Breaking and Entering, where he portrayed the parkour‑savvy burglar Miro, earning a nomination for Most Promising Newcomer at the British Independent Film Awards. Gavron subsequently appeared as the gay lead singer Dev in Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist (2008) and as assassin Duro in HBO’s Rome. Television roles followed, including Hamid Al‑Zarian on 24, Bug in Life Unexpected, and Ernie Nunzi in Godfather of Harlem. In cinema he has been featured in Inkheart (2009), Snitch (2013) alongside Dwayne Johnson, and the critically praised A Star Is Born (2018). Despite a promising trajectory, his personal life faced turbulence with two arrests in 2013 related to domestic disputes and DUI. Continuing to work, Gavron joined the upcoming sci‑fi project Mercy (2024) directed by Timur Bekmambetov, underscoring his enduring presence in the industry.
