John Matthews, played by Dwayne Johnson, is a construction company owner who receives distressing news from his ex-wife, Sylvie Collins. Their son, Jason, portrayed by Rafi Gavron, is facing serious charges for narcotics distribution. Although Jason isn’t a dealer, he’s caught in a sting operation set up by a friend aiming to lessen his own legal troubles. With a minimum prison sentence of 10 years looming over Jason, John wrestles with guilt and desperation, realizing he hasn’t been there for his son. He’s determined to save Jason before it’s too late.

To navigate this perilous situation, John utilizes his connections, meeting with US Attorney Joanne Keeghan, excellently played by Susan Sarandon. Keeghan is entrenched in a vigorous anti-drug campaign, using her position to bolster her congressional ambitions. She reluctantly agrees to lighten Jason’s sentence if John can provide information about a drug dealer, making it clear that he bears the risks involved with minimal assistance from her.

Malik, requiring a risky operation to salvage his own interests, agrees but insists that John and Daniel need to undertake their first shipment themselves.

In a tense collaboration, John coordinates with Keeghan, who names Cooper as her primary contact for the case. She promises a one-year reduction in Jason’s sentence if they can arrest Malik. Through wiretaps, John conducts the risky operation, but en route to the pickup, a rival gang ambushes him. In a twist of fate, John skillfully escapes, earning the respect of cartel kingpin Juan Carlos “El Topo” Pintera, played by Benjamin Bratt.
