What's After the Movie

Patricia Marmont

**Patricia Marmont** was a transatlantic talent whose career spanned nearly six decades, bridging the golden age of Hollywood cinema and the vibrant theatre scene of post‑war Britain. *Born* on 9 August 1921 in the quiet suburb of Beechhurst, Queens, New York, she was the daughter of veteran film actor Percy Marmont, which immersed her early on in the world of performance. During World War II she answered a different call to service, joining the Women’s Army Corps and being stationed in England, an experience that later proved instrumental in shaping her bicultural identity.

After the war she launched her screen career with a debut in 1946, quickly earning a memorable role opposite Cary Grant in *I Was a Male War Bride* (1949). She achieved lasting fame as the Trojan princess Andromache in the 1956 epic *Helen of Troy*, and continued to appear in notable television series such as *The Adventures of Robin Hood* and *Danger Man*. In the 1970s she stepped back from acting and settled in London, where she reinvented herself as a theatrical agent. Partnering first with Larry Dalzell, she honed a reputation for spotting talent, and in 1983 founded Marmond Management Ltd. Over the following decades she guided the careers of luminaries including William H. Macy, Kenneth Branagh, and Julia Ormond, cementing her legacy as a *pioneering* entrepreneur in the entertainment industry. She spent her final years at Denville Hall, passing away on 3 December 2020 at the age of 99, just months shy of her centennial birthday.
