What's After the Movie
Manolo Solo, the stage name of Manuel Jesús Fernández Serrano, is a multifaceted Spanish performer whose career spans music, theatre, television, and film. Born in Algeciras in 1964, he spent his early childhood in the nearby town of Los Barrios before his family relocated to Seville when he was six years old. Growing up in the vibrant cultural milieu of Andalusia, Solo immersed himself in the local music scene, initially playing bass and singing with the group Hacienda Somos Todos and later joining Libertad Provisional. His musical journey continued as he became a member of Arden Lágrimas and ultimately the lead vocalist of the rock band Los Relicarios, a collaboration that saw him share the stage with noted guitarist Santi Amodeo and produce two albums, Detentebala (1991) and Doblegado a sus pies (1994). While his early passion lay in music, Solo pursued academic studies and earned a licentiate degree in Education Sciences from the University of Seville, demonstrating a commitment to intellectual growth alongside artistic ambition. He honed his acting skills at Seville’s Instituto de Teatro, making his stage debut in 1989 and quickly gaining recognition for his compelling presence and versatility. Following a series of television appearances that showcased his adaptability across genres, Solo transitioned to the big screen with his feature‑film debut in the drama Everything in Place in 2002, marking the beginning of a prolific cinematic career. Over the ensuing years, he has built a diverse portfolio that includes leading and supporting roles in both contemporary and period productions, earning critical acclaim for his nuanced performances. Today, Manolo Solo continues to be a dynamic force in Spanish entertainment, balancing his roots in music with a steadily expanding acting repertoire, and remains a beloved figure for audiences who appreciate his depth, dedication, and artistic integrity.
