Lori Singer

Lori Singer (born November 6, 1957) is an American actress and musician whose career bridges classical performance and Hollywood stardom. Born in Corpus Christi, Texas to Polish‑born conductor Jacques Singer and concert pianist Leslie Wright, she moved at age four to Portland, Oregon, where her father led the Portland Symphony Orchestra. A child prodigy, Singer debuted as a soloist with the Oregon Symphony at thirteen, and at fourteen gained admission to the Juilliard School, becoming its youngest graduate. After Juilliard she performed with the Western Washington University Symphony Orchestra and won the Bergen Philharmonic Competition in 1980, showcasing a rare blend of technical mastery and expressive depth on the cello.  These early musical achievements laid a foundation for her later work in film, where her dual talents often informed the characters she portrayed.  The Kids from “Fame” recorded a live concert at Royal Albert Hall in 1983, highlighting her ability to merge acting with high‑level musicianship.
