What's After the Movie
Micah “Katt” Williams (born September 2, 1971 in Cincinnati, Ohio) is an American stand‑up comedian, actor, and occasional rapper who has become one of the most recognizable voices in contemporary Black comedy. Raised by Jehovah’s Witness parents in Dayton, he learned to read at three, spoke several languages, and spent a year and a half in Haiti on a family mission before emancipating himself at thirteen and moving to Florida, where he survived as a homeless street vendor. His early forays into comedy began in Cincinnati’s Avondale neighborhood, and by the late 1990s he was performing at clubs such as The Improv, The Ice House, and Hollywood Park Casino, eventually gaining national exposure on BET’s ComicView as Katt “N da Hatt” Williams. Since his first HBO special The Pimp Chronicles, Pt. 1 in 2006, Williams has released a string of critically acclaimed specials—including It’s Pimpin’ Pimpin’ (2008), Kattpacalypse (2012), Priceless: Afterlife (2014), Great America (2018), World War III (2022), and Woke Foke (2024)—each blending observational humor, satire, and his trademark flamboyant delivery. He has also built a substantial acting résumé, portraying Money Mike in Friday After Next, Bobby Shaw in My Wife and Kids, and voicing A Pimp Named Slickback in The Boondocks, while earning an Emmy for his guest role on Atlanta in 2018. Despite a tumultuous personal life marked by numerous arrests and legal battles, Williams remains a prolific figure, fathering ten children (three biological, seven adopted) and maintaining a public persona that mixes bravado, spirituality, and a constant critique of race, politics, and celebrity culture.
