Julia Garner is an acclaimed American actress who first gained widespread recognition for her role as Ruth Langmore in the Netflix crime drama series Ozark (2017–2022). For her compelling performance in this series, she garnered significant critical acclaim and won three Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series and a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress. Garner's career is filled with diverse roles; she has delivered stellar performances in the FX drama series The Americans (2015–2018), the Netflix miniseries Maniac (2018), and the Bravo true crime series Dirty John (2018–2019). Garner was born in the Riverdale neighborhood of the Bronx, New York. Her mother, Tamar Gingold, a former actress and comedian from Israel, influenced Garner's acting career. Garner is Jewish and understands Hebrew. Garner attended the Eagle Hill School in Greenwich, Connecticut. It was at the age of 15 that she started taking acting lessons to overcome her shyness, which marked the beginning of her illustrious acting career.
