Tomato Red 2017

Sammy is released from prison and starts over in a modest trailer, taking a low-level job as he searches for stability. On a Friday night, he heads to a bar, drinks, and quickly bonds with a small group of locals. Over the weekend, they introduce him to meth and pressure him to help them break into a wealthy family’s house. The car that brings him to the residence abandons him, leaving him to drink liquor and eventually pass out.

Awakening, he finds himself tied to a chair by the two siblings, Jamalee Merridew and Jason Merridew, who treat the place as though it were theirs. They eventually untie him, and when the police arrive, all three flee the scene. Jamalee invites Sammy to her trailer, but he returns to his own place instead. He tracks down the people who abandoned him, beating a man and reclaiming his belongings. He then decides to go to Jamalee’s.

Sammy ends up living with the two siblings in their brother’s room, the brother currently incarcerated. Their mother, Bev Merridew, lives nearby in a home and works as a prostitute. Sammy grows closer to all three of them, and the trio continues to break into wealthy homes, using the information they uncover to blackmail their targets. This pattern culminates in Jason’s murder. A local police officer pays them off with $5,500 and tells them to drop it, claiming the beating of Jason was meant as a message but things have spiraled out of control. Not long after, Jamalee leaves town alone, and Sammy is left to confront the townspeople in a final, tense confrontation.
