Fred Armisen, born as Fereydun Robert Armisen, is an American actor, comedian, musician, and writer. Known for his work in numerous comedy films and television series, Fred has made quite a name for himself in the entertainment industry. His acting prowess prominently shines in the IFC sketch comedy series Portlandia, which he co-created and co-starred in with Carrie Brownstein. He also lent his talents to the mockumentary IFC series Documentary Now! and Showtime comedy series Moonbase 8.
A man of many talents, Fred has used his musical skills in Late Night with Seth Meyers and played characters on Saturday Night Live for over a decade. His most notable film roles include EuroTrip, Melvin Goes to Dinner, The Ex, and The Dictator. Television shows he guest-starred in contain big names like 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, New Girl, and Curb Your Enthusiasm. His comedic performances have earned him a Grammy nomination for Best Comedy Album and two Peabody Awards.
Fred was born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and was raised in Valley Stream, New York, after moving with his family at a young age. He briefly lived in Brazil in his youth and attended the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan before becoming a rock drummer. Armisen has also had a prolific music career. He played drums in a local band in the 1980s and later for the punk rock band Trenchmouth. With a career spanning over multiple decades, Fred Armisen continues to entertain audiences with his comedic timing and unique characters.
