What's After the Movie
Emmanuel Curtil (born 7 February 1971) is a distinguished French actor whose career has been defined by an extraordinary versatility in both on‑screen performance and voice dubbing. From a precocious debut at the age of ten in the television movie "L'Oiseau bleu," he quickly captured the attention of notable directors, earning the role of Gavroche in a televised adaptation of Les Misérables in 1982. His early work spanned musical comedy in Paul et Virginie and a feature role in Claude Confortès' Vive les femmes!, while he also appeared in popular French series such as Pause‑café and Tribunal. Dissatisfied with the demanding production pace of daily episodic television, Curtil pivoted toward the burgeoning field of dubbing, where his refined vocal talent found a natural home. At the suggestion of veteran dubber Barbara Tissier, he auditioned for SOFI and was immediately selected, launching a prolific dubbing career that would see him become the French voice of iconic international stars. He first voiced Matthew Perry's Chandler Bing for the initial eight seasons of Friends, establishing a lasting association with the beloved sitcom. He also became the official French voice of Jim Carrey, beginning with The Mask, and has since voiced Carrey in virtually every subsequent film, cementing his status as a premier dubbing artist. In animation, Curtil's resonant tones have brought to life characters such as adult Simba in Le Roi lion, Goofy in recent Disney productions, and Kronk in The Emperor's New Groove, showcasing his ability to blend speaking and singing performances with seamless artistry. Beyond his professional achievements, Curtil has cultivated a rich personal life, studying piano since 1998, immersing himself in literature, and sharing his world with his wife and their son.
