Don Taylor

Don Taylor (born Donald H. Taylor on 23 May 1920 in New York City) was a prolific American actor‑turned‑director whose career spanned nearly five decades. After serving in the United States Navy during World War II, he enrolled at the Actors Studio and began appearing in Broadway productions before transitioning to Hollywood in the late 1940s. His early screen work included supporting roles in classics such as The Best Years of Our Lives (1946) and Marty (1955), where his naturalistic style earned the respect of both directors and fellow actors. By the mid‑1950s Taylor had discovered a passion for directing, debuting with the low‑budget film The Delicate Delinquent (1957) and quickly establishing a reputation for extracting nuanced performances from young talent. During the 1960s and 1970s Taylor became one of television’s most reliable directors, steering episodes of landmark series such as The Twilight Zone, Perry Mason, The Fugitive, and Medical Center.
