After a brutal war over Thebes leaves Oedipus’s sons dead, Creon declares a state edict forbidding anyone to give Polynices a proper burial, punishable by death. Defying the decree, Antigone insists on honoring her brother with the rites he deserves, setting her against Creon’s authority.
