Demetri Martin

**Demetri Martin** (*born May 25, 1973*) is an *American* comedian, actor, writer, director, cartoonist and musician known for his dead‑pan delivery, clever wordplay and musical‑infused stand‑up routines. Raised in a Greek‑American family in New York City and later in Toms River, New Jersey, he is the son of Lillian and Dean C. Martin, a Greek Orthodox priest, and has a brother Spyro and a sister Christene. After graduating from Toms River High School North in 1991, Martin earned a B.A. in History from Yale University in 1995, where he famously wrote a 224‑word palindromic poem for a fractal geometry class and joined the quirky Anti‑Gravity Society. Although admitted to Harvard Law, he pursued a full scholarship at NYU Law before withdrawing to follow comedy, debuting on the stand‑up circuit in the summer of 1997 and interning for *The Daily Show* the same year.
