David Ian Hewlett, born 18 April 1968, hails as a triple threat as an actor, writer, and director. His fame skyrocketed due to his impeccable performances as Grant Jansky in Traders (1996–2000), and as David Worth in Cube (1997). His work extends to science-fiction, with his role as Dr. Rodney McKay in the Stargate franchise being particularly notable. Besides this, he displayed his acting prowess in Pin (1988), Scanners II: The New Order (1991), and Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011). Born and raised in Redhill, England, he moved to Canada when he was four. A computer geek since his teens, he launched his acting career in high school, acting in student films. He even dropped out in his senior year to follow his dual passion for acting and computing.
This multitalented personality spent the early years of his career designing websites for Darkyl Media, and founding Fusefilm.com, a community for filmmakers. Hewlett boasts of an impressive filmography in low-budget horror films such as The Darkside, and hit television series. One of his well-received roles was on Traders in 1996. He reconnected with Vincenzo Natali in Cube as Worth the architect which gained critical acclaim. A lifelong science-fiction fan, Hewlett credits Doctor Who for sparking his interest in the genre. His dream of pursuing a career in science-fiction became a reality with a recurring role in Stargate SG-1 which later turned into a starring role in Stargate Atlantis. He has written and directed films like 'A Dog's Breakfast' (2007) and 'Debug' (2014). He is also recognized for his recurring role in the Syfy TV series Dark Matter. His personal YouTube channel, 'David Hewlett' continues to engage audiences, and his contributions to the entertainment industry show no sign of slowing down.
