Patrick [David Hewlett] is a bachelor who still lives in his late parents’ house with his loyal dog Mars. Just before Christmas, his sister Marilyn [Kate Hewlett] visits to introduce him to Ryan [Paul McGillion], a television sci‑fi star. Their meeting spirals into chaos when Patrick accidentally knocks Ryan out with a cricket bat, and he is stunned to learn that Marilyn is engaged to him. Patrick quickly overhears a phone conversation in which Ryan cites a dialogue line that makes him fear Ryan intends to harm Marilyn, and from that moment he resolves to protect his sister at all costs.

What begins as a tense, protectiveness‑driven mission rapidly spirals into a dark comic nightmare. While on the phone with Marilyn, Patrick witnesses a fatal accident: Ryan attempts to mount Christmas lights on a ladder and falls to the ground. Panicked, Patrick tries to hide Ryan’s death, disposing of the body first in the garden and then in a nearby lake. To his horror, the corpse reappears again and again, refusing to stay buried. In a desperate bid to redirect Marilyn’s attention, he fabricates an online dating profile and arranges a blind date between Marilyn and a mysterious man named Chris [Christopher Judge], hoping to plant doubts about Ryan’s suitability and threaten the engagement.

As Ryan’s supposed disappearance draws official attention, Ryan’s aunt becomes involved and begins to investigate. The initial suspicion falls on Marilyn, but Patrick’s cover soon begins to crumble under pressure. In a darkly comic twist, the siblings decide to dismember Ryan’s body and feed it to Mars and the neighbors’ dogs, a grim scene that underscored how far Patrick has been willing to go to keep his sister safe and to keep his own dark feelings hidden. Yet the truth proves far stranger than anyone could imagine: Ryan reveals that he and Marilyn staged his “death,” and the body Patrick has been disposing of is actually Marilyn’s sex doll, with Ryan having taken on the persona of Marilyn’s relative to keep the ruse going. The aunt’s involvement, the fake death, and the web of lies all collide in one revelation that redefines who is protecting whom.

In the wake of these revelations, Patrick begins to confront a future he hadn’t allowed himself to consider. Just when he seems ready to accept Ryan as his brother‑in‑law, Elise arrives—Ryan’s sister Elise—and she is wary of the impending wedding. Yet a spark ignites between Patrick and Elise from their very first encounter, hinting at a new, unexpected romance. As Marilyn guides Elise through the house, Ryan quietly leads Patrick toward the lake, a moose figure looming behind him, suggesting that the final chapter of this bizarre, twisted love triangle may hinge on choices Patrick never expected to make. The film blends dark humor with offbeat romance, painting a portrait of a man whose steadfast need for order collides with a world where nothing is as it seems—and where love, loyalty, and truth get pulled into a swirl of deception, danger, and desire.
