Bronagh Gallagher is an Irish singer‑songwriter and actress whose distinctive husky voice and gritty performances have made her a beloved figure in both music and film. Born on 26 April 1972 in Derry, Northern Ireland, she grew up immersed in the local arts scene, joining the Oakgrove Theatre Company as a teenager and later singing with the garage‑rehearsal band The Listener. After working as a hairdresser, Gallagher’s breakthrough arrived when she was cast as the feisty Bernie McGloughlin in The Commitments (1991), a role that instantly showcased her raw talent and earned her a place on an Irish postage stamp celebrating national cinema. Her early screen work also included the BBC drama You, Me & Marley (1992) and a memorable cameo in Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction (1994), establishing her reputation for delivering nuanced, down‑to‑earth characters.
