What's After the Movie
Adrian Kayvan Pasdar (born April 30, 1965 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts) is an American film, television, and voice actor whose career spans more than three decades. He first gained notice in the mid‑1980s with roles in cult classics such as Near Dark (1987) and Solarbabies (1986) before moving on to notable parts in Carlito's Way (1993) and the television series Profit (1996), where his intense portrayal of a morally ambiguous corporate climber earned him a devoted following. Over the years Pasdar has become a familiar face on both sides of the screen: he played Nathan Petrelli in the superhero drama Heroes, repeatedly appeared as Glenn Talbot/Graviton on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and provided the voice of Tony Stark/Iron Man in several Marvel animated franchises, including Ultimate Spider‑Man and Avengers Assemble. In addition to acting, he wrote and directed the neo‑noir feature Cement (1999), a low‑budget independent film that garnered several festival awards and showcased his commitment to storytelling beyond the mainstream studio system. A former football scholarship student at the University of Florida, Pasdar turned to performance after an injury, later honing his craft at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute following a backstage accident that left him with a truncated thumb.
Beyond his on‑screen work, Pasdar has contributed to charitable causes as a guitarist in the Band From TV, supporting organizations such as the Rush Epilepsy Center. He married country‑music star Natalie Maines in 2000, and the couple have two sons; their divorce was finalized in 2019. His multicultural heritage—an Iranian‑American surgeon father and a German‑born mother—has informed his versatile approach to roles, allowing him to inhabit characters ranging from gritty law‑enforcement officials to heroic scientists with equal nuance and depth.
