On Noah Moran/Leister’s 18th birthday, her boyfriend and recent stepbrother by marriage Nick Leister—whose parents disapprove—is away doing a law internship in San Francisco. Noah feels the weight of the day, still grieving the year since her abusive father Jonás died, and her closest friend Jenna hints that their graduation party might be the moment to celebrate rather than dwell. Then, unexpectedly, Nick returns.

Noah is enrolled at the local college, so Nick rents a nearby flat to keep their relationship alive. She assumes the arrangement is meant for both of them, but his growing commitment-phobia becomes a wall between them, and Noah’s frustration boils over into a stormy exit.

Out later, Noah fills Jenna in, who quips about Nick’s mother-induced abandonment. At the same time, Nick and Lion discuss their relationship troubles and Nick’s lingering feelings of inadequacy. To save money, Noah suggests they try eating more cheaply, a small moment that exposes how strained things have become.

Rafaella [Marta Hazas] shows Noah her shared college flat, and there Noah meets Briar, a young man who took two years off after high school. At his father William’s law firm, Nick meets fellow intern and recent Harvard graduate Sofía, a connection that adds to the undercurrents pulling Nick in new directions.

Rafaella also shows Noah a photo they intercepted, a reminder to tread carefully amid rumors of her being a gold digger. Noah insists that Nick loves her, but the doubt lingers in her mind. Uncomfortable with the mounting tension, Noah slips away to her apartment. Briar hosts a house party that ends quickly, and the next-door neighbor Michael pops in to introduce himself.

At first, Nick tries to prove he’s moved past fighting, racing, and chasing girls. But working closely with the attractive Sofía, his attention begins to drift. Meanwhile, Rafaella and William had actually hired Sofía with the idea of potentially breaking up Nick and Noah.

Anabel, the mother who abandoned Nick ten years earlier, constantly calls him. When she corners him to collect Maggie, Nick leaves without a word. Nick and Noah spend the afternoon together, only to discover Briar is Noah’s roommate, though they keep their familiarity hidden from the others.

Lion’s presence threatens to drag Nick back into his old life. With his garage facing financial ruin, Nick agrees to deliver an unknown substance, which Noah later confirms is cocaine. Lion heads to the pool hall alone, but Nick and Noah follow close behind, and they manage to escape—only to get arrested.

Noah stops home to collect her things and stumbles into an awkward dinner party with Nick, their parents, Sofía and her parents, and William’s longtime friends. The atmosphere is tense, hinting at a potential match between Nick and Sofía, something that unsettles Noah.

Anabel manipulates Noah into letting her into the Leister home, where she distracts Noah with photos of the extramarital affair between Rafaella and William. Anabel then steals William’s toothbrush, a small, sharp detail that underscores the growing undercurrents of betrayal.

Nick and Sofía are sent to London to fight a case. He meets his grandfather Andrew, who reveals he cared for Briar when he was younger. The interns win their case, and during the trip Nick repeatedly checks that Noah is staying in his apartment, a worry Briar picks up on.

Briar pushes Noah back into their apartment, where they party with Michael until Noah feigns sleepiness. He nearly seduces her, but she rejects him. Just as Noah is helping Michael outside, Nick arrives. His jealousy flares, and Noah suggests they end things. He gives her a two-week ultimatum—decide about their future by the Gala or he’ll move to London.

Meanwhile, Lion proposes a rally for 15,000 on Gala night, believing Jenna and Noah will be distracted. Yet the pair still arrives to compete, unaware that Briar has called the cops and lifted some roadblocks. After a harrowing race, Noah and Nick join forces to defeat the recently released Ronnie, allowing Lion to win.

At the Gala, Lion declares he’s finished with racing and money worries, but Jenna ends her relationship with him. Briar, who has come with Noah, lets Anabel into the event and she confronts William, revealing that Maggie is his daughter. Nick learns Noah may be involved with Sofía, and in a moment of anger, he kisses Sofía before storming off with Lion.

Briar plants evidence—photos that imply Nick is involved with Sofia—leaving Noah dejected. Nick soon returns, but Briar feeds him a lie that Noah has left to kill herself. In truth, Noah has simply returned to their shared apartment, where Michael drugs and seduces Briar. Noah, unaware, returns to her own apartment and passes Nick coldly as he drives off.

In the quiet aftermath, Noah visits Jonah’s grave to say goodbye and finds, etched on the headstone, Nick’s vow to always protect her, a memory that lingers as she faces an uncertain future.
