One witch, Lara, proves stubborn and resourceful, managing to break free from the binding and slip away from Zhore’s reach.

A powerless, amnesiac Lara is later found by [Hansel], a hunter turned witch hunter who tolerates no injustice and seeks vengeance for Gretl. With Lara’s occult knowledge still intact, she helps forge powerful anti-witch armaments that empower [Hansel] to face the threat ahead. The two of them interrogate and kill a witch, learning that the Witch Queen’s next target is a girl named [Ehren]. Abyss murders Ehren’s father and abducts Ehren herself, but before Abyss can bind Ehren to Zhore, she is rescued by Hansel. Lara convinces Hansel that Ehren’s raw magical power could become the key to turning the tide, and the plan to train Ehren begins in earnest.

As the threat tightens, it becomes clear that Zhore wants Ehren because she could serve as a fresh vessel—Gretl’s former body can no longer sustain Zhore. Abyss, trying to atone or perhaps salvage the situation, brings Zhore a potential replacement, but Zhore disintegrates the proposal and lashes out at Abyss in vicious frustration. The coven’s net tightens when Zhore’s gargoyle captures Hansel and delivers him to her, and she offers Gretl’s restored body in exchange for Ehren. Hansel refuses, and Abyss is ordered burned, but he chooses a different path and frees Hansel instead, revealing that destroying Zhore’s original body could restore Gretl and strike down Zhore.

Hansel and Ehren flee the gargoyle’s clutches and manage to unearth Gretl.
