Seth Durgadas, Anwar Hussain, is a wealthy and respected businessman who looms large in his son Kumar’s life and in the eyes of the social circle. To everyone around him, he presents the image of a generous, shrewd patriarch, but behind that polished exterior lies the truth: Durgadas runs a tightly run smuggling operation, relying on trusted insiders to supply information while his gang handles the risky work. When a robbery goes wrong because a gang member grows greedy and bolts with the diamonds, Durgadas immediately sends a trusted man to recover the loot and neutralize the traitor. The traitor is killed, yet the killer also escapes with the diamonds, leaving Durgadas both furious and hungry for restitution.

As the tension escalates, Durgadas dispatches more henchmen to hunt down the remaining traitor and salvage the diamonds. They corner and kill him, but he has cunningly hidden the diamonds somewhere unreachable by the immediate pursuers. In a parallel thread, a Victoria car—the eponymous vehicle that has become a symbol of mobility and status—draws police attention when its driver, found near the crime scene, is arrested on circumstantial grounds. This driver is Rekha, Saira Banu, a woman whose poise and defiance soon pull her deeper into a seam of danger and intrigue.

Two elderly, well-meaning crooks—Raja, Ashok Kumar, and Rana, Pran Sikand—are due for release and dream instead of their old life: they long to be respectable men, free from the shadows of crime. Rana had once faced a crisis when his infant son was kidnapped from a park, and the mystery of that child’s fate remains unresolved. The pair sense opportunity in the Victoria driver’s predicament, and they decide to pursue the diamonds by insinuating themselves into Rekha’s world. They pose as distant cousins of Rekha’s driver, and Rekha’s elder sister’s house reluctantly admits them.

During the day, Rekha moves through town riding the Victoria, sometimes posing as a man to look more legitimate; at night, she slips away from the family’s watchful eyes. One day Raja and Rana trail her to the home of a man who, unknown to them, is one of Durgadas’s henchmen. They witness Rekha’s audacious moment when she flirts with him, and when the henchman tries to assault her, the two old men step in to save her. Rekha explains that the henchman’s suspicious behavior around the Victoria on the day of her father’s arrest connected him to the larger web. Before they can press for more, the henchman is shot dead by unknown hands.

Hearing Rekha’s account of the Victoria driver’s story, Raja and Rana decide to do one good turn: they tell Rekha the truth about their intentions and offer to help, but Rekha herself has no clue where the missing diamonds lie. Even after they rummage through the Victoria’s innards and puzzle over every corner, nothing surfaces. In the meantime, Rekha begins to fall for Kumar, whom she first encounters while sneaking around as a cab driver. Their initial connection deepens when Rekha, after revealing herself, attempts to win over Kumar by presenting herself as a wealthy, refined woman. The gambit works, and Kumar begins to consider marriage, even after learning Rekha’s concealed life and her father’s complicated past.

Kumar’s growing trust gives Rekha room to reveal more about her reality, and she becomes a bridge between the two men and Rekha’s own family. When Durgadas objects to the budding relationship between Rekha and Kumar, the tension in the household thickens. The truth about Rekha’s father adds to the peril, and Kumar, shaken by what he learns, withdraws from the arrangement, though he remains drawn to Rekha.

As the coercion unfolds, Durgadas serves drinks on an ornate tray topped with a fake Victoria headlamp—a visual cue that hides deeper deceit. Rana, quick on his feet, realizes that the diamonds must be concealed within the Victoria’s lamp. He buys time and, with his old ally, makes a daring move to reclaim the prize. They infiltrate Durgadas’s den, sparking a chaotic encounter that pits loyalists against the smuggling boss’s scattered crew. In the heat of the melee, it becomes clear that not a single member of Durgadas’s gang remains truly loyal.

A key twist emerges when an old henchman of Durgadas reveals a devastating truth: Kumar isn’t Durgadas’s son. Rana is actually the father’s child. The confession implies Durgadas had resorted to a desperate move in his youth—stealing someone else’s child to prevent his own destiny from being defined by failure, a ploy that now unravels his carefully constructed empire. With this revelation, Durgadas’s grip on his operation loosens, and the authorities close in.

In the aftermath, Durgadas and his remaining cronies are arrested, and Rekha’s father’s fate is reversed—he is freed from suspicion and the family regains some measure of peace. Rana, after reuniting with his son and the prospect of a life together with Rekha, contemplates settling down with his new happiness. Yet Raja, whose own path seems unsettled, steps away from the spotlight of crime. He does not abandon his friend Rana, though: he spots a burka-clad woman and discovers that the disguise hides Rana’s true presence. Rana tells Raja that he won’t let him spend the rest of his life apart from him, and Raja, moved by the turn of events, returns home with his friend, ready to face whatever comes next together.
