Daniella Mendoza embodies Carla Moran, a devoted single mother living in Los Angeles who is suddenly stalked by an unseen force that assaults her in the quiet of her own bungalow. The initial horror is followed by a chilling wave of poltergeist activity, forcing Carla and her children to seek safety at the home of her best friend, Cindy Nash. Yet even after fleeing, the danger relentlessly pursues them. The very next day, Carla’s car inexplicably spirals out of control in traffic, narrowly averting disaster. The sequence of terrifying events leaves Carla desperate for answers and safety, and she is urged by Cindy to seek psychiatric help.

Carla agrees to meet with Dr. Sneiderman, a clinician willing to listen but cautious about what might be real and what might be rooted in past trauma. As Carla recounts a childhood marked by deep wounds—sexual abuse, a teenage pregnancy, and the violent death of her first husband—Dr. Sneiderman maintains a careful balance, suggesting that some experiences could be interpreted as delusions born from psychological scars, while remaining open to the possibility of something genuinely extraordinary happening in her home. In the aftermath, Carla’s boyfriend, Jerry Anderson, becomes a witness to the events and is deeply troubled by what he experiences, which ultimately strains their relationship and leads to a painful breakup.

In search of a solution, Carla agrees to participate in an organized study led by parapsychologists she has met in a bookstore. The team, under the supervision of their leader Dr. Cooley, documents a series of remarkable phenomena within the home. While Sneiderman continues to press Carla to consider hospitalization for further observation, she resists, even when he accuses her of unsettling possibilities about her connection to her son. The investigation deepens when Cindy’s friend and Carla’s acquaintances corroborate the strange events, and the parapsychologists shift their focus toward a more scientific approach to understanding the haunting.

A crucial turning point comes when Carla’s relationship with her boyfriend, Jerry, is tested by what he witnesses inside the bedroom—Carla being held down by the entity and subjected to a sexualized assault performed by invisible fingers. The shock proves too much for him, and their bond dissolves as he retreats from the situation, leaving Carla to confront the terror solo and with the support of the researchers who now believe her account deserves serious attention.

Desperation pushes Carla toward a dramatic, high-stakes experiment. Cooley’s team builds a full-scale mock-up of her home, designed to lure the malevolent force into a trap and freeze it with liquid helium. Even as Carla agrees to take part, Sneiderman visits to try to persuade her to withdraw, revealing an unorthodox personal interest in her case that complicates the therapist-patient dynamic. When the entity finally arrives, it unexpectedly seizes control of the helium jets and turns the trap against Carla. She stands defiantly in the room, declaring that while it may kill her, it will never have her. In the climax of the attempt, the tanks explode, flooding the space with liquid helium, and Sneiderman rushes in just in time to rescue her. The aftermath reveals that the creature has been immobilized by the ice block, though it shatters and vanishes almost immediately, leaving Dr. Cooley to acknowledge that Carla has a powerful witness in Dr. Weber, who chooses to retreat into disbelief instead of testimony.

Carla returns to the house the following day, only to encounter a final, chilling reminder of the danger: the front door slams shut on its own, and a disembodied voice greets her with the words, “Welcome home, cunt.” She meets this moment with calm resolve, opens the door, and leaves with her family, setting a new course for their lives in Texas.
