Flying Squad officers DI Jack Regan and DC George Carter respond to a dramatic scene at a warehouse where four heavily armed men are in the midst of a gold bar heist. After successfully apprehending the robbers, Regan decides to take some of the gold bars to provide to his informant, Harry. As the plot unfolds, DCI Ivan Lewis from the Met’s Professional Standards Department begins to closely scrutinize Regan’s actions, oblivious to the fact that Regan is having an affair with Lewis’s estranged wife, fellow Flying Squad officer Nancy Lewis.

Amidst this chaos, Regan acquires intelligence about a heist planned at a private bank. However, his attention is diverted when a minor robbery at a jeweler results in £200,000 worth of jewelry being taken by a dangerous criminal, leading to the death of an innocent civilian. Although Regan suspects his longtime adversary, Francis Allen, might be behind the incident, he cannot prove Allen was in the country during the crime. The situation becomes more complex when emerging evidence ties the violent Serbian criminal Makin Trebolt to the case, forcing Regan to reluctantly release Allen.

The tension escalates as the private bank falls victim to a robbery, with the Flying Squad arriving just in time to confront the heavily armed criminals, despite defying their superior, DCI Frank Haskins. A lengthy chase ensues, resulting in a shootout in which the robbers manage to escape, with Makin callously murdering Nancy in front of a shocked and incapacitated Regan. In the aftermath, a grieving DCI Lewis uses the incident to suspend the entire Flying Squad, putting their careers in jeopardy.

Undeterred, Regan seeks revenge by acquiring a fake badge and an illegal weapon. He interrogates a local thug, who shockingly divulges that Allen had paid him to manufacture an alibi. Just as he is about to inform Carter of this newfound evidence, Regan is arrested and taken into custody.

Meanwhile, Carter embarks on his own investigation, tracking down a robber injured in the earlier shootout. This robber discloses that Makin plans to escape on a boat named Pegasus. Shortly thereafter, an armed Carter is apprehended, but DCI Haskins intervenes, desperately trying to save Carter’s career. Events take a turn when Carter notices “Pegasus” in the Flying Squad’s records, connecting it to Allen.

Putting the pieces together, Haskins arranges for Regan’s release. United once more, Regan and Carter race to the docks, aiming to stop Makin and Allen, who evade capture by fleeing in a vehicle. Their pursuit leads them to a caravan park, where both vehicles collide. As Carter exits to confront the fugitives, he gets hit by their car. In a dramatic moment, Makin aims his weapon at the gravely injured Carter, but Regan takes immediate action, fatally shooting Makin. He then points his gun directly at the wounded Allen, confidently stating, > “you’re nicked,” before cautiously lowering his weapon.

In the conclusion, Regan finds himself back at the Flying Squad offices, officially reinstated after the chaos. He and his team are ready to take on a new case, with DCI Lewis observing the determined duo of DI Jack Regan and DC George Carter as they head out once again into the fray.
