When Captain Jackie Velez (Lina Esco) of the Miami-Dade Police Department is murdered, the city watches the fate of her elite Tactical Narcotics Team (TNT) with growing suspicion of a crooked-cop crew preying on drug houses. In the wake of her death, her second-in-command, Lieutenant Dane Dumars (Matt Damon), pushes his squad to a dangerous edge as he follows a tip about a hidden stash in a quiet Hialeah house. He leads a team that includes Det Sergeant JD Byrne (Ben Affleck), Mike Ro, Numa Baptiste, and Lolo Salazar on a high-stakes search for illicit money, all while the clock ticks and the pressure mounts.

Inside that unremarkable house, the team uncovers an astonishing twenty million dollars in cartel cash, tucked away in the attic. The find is explosive for two reasons: the sheer amount is staggering, and the team realizes that seizing it could ignite a city-wide backlash. Dumars, already skirting the edge of procedure, refuses to alert higher command and confiscates the group’s phones to keep the operation off the books. The team’s uneasy mood deepens after a tense encounter with two local Hialeah officers, and Ro covertly uses a burner phone, sensing that something far bigger is at play.

Desi Molina, the homeowner’s granddaughter, explains that she was told to offer a cut if the stash was found, adding a personal hue to the encounter. Dumars grows more suspicious when he learns she was once a police informant, muddying the lines between informant history and criminal activity. As the dust settles, Ro is pursued and arrested by Dumars, and Nix dies in a subsequent car chase. The stolen cash is swapped with phone books hoarded by Desi’s grandmother, and the detectives turn in the real money, a move that leaves Desi grateful with a substantial share for her cooperation.
