Entrepreneur Ray Moody operates a unique business where clients pay him to undergo a simulated kidnapping experience. His attempt to secure a loan from a banker doesn’t go as planned, as Ray struggles to explain his unconventional business model. Despite the challenges in his relationship with his sister Natalie, Ray seeks financial assistance from her husband, Tom.

One of Ray’s clients, Stuart, who has issues with overeating, hires him for an eight-hour aggressive intervention. During this session, Ray candidly tells Stuart that he has been cheating on his diet and proceeds to tempt him with countless hamburgers. At the conclusion of their time together, Stuart expresses gratitude towards Ray, claiming to have lost his appetite for his favorite food.

Exciting news comes when Ray receives a call from a new client, Anna, who is interested in an extensive weekend session. However, Ray’s enthusiasm quickly shifts to hesitation when Anna insists on him being aggressive and hitting her. After some reluctance, he accepts her request and decides to perform some background surveillance on her, leading to a message from her urging him to keep his actions discreet.

In an intense weekend scenario, Ray simulates a carjacking to take Anna hostage, maintaining his role throughout. He is seen wrestling with his nerves, trying to convince himself of his capabilities. As Ray aggressively interrogates Anna about a fictitious business deal, her fear turns to defiance, and she mocks him, accusing him of being a pervert for the nature of their arrangement. This confrontation escalates when Ray, in a fit of anger, strikes her.

Amidst personal turmoil, Ray seeks to repay Tom and inadvertently reveals his unusual business activities to Natalie, who becomes upset upon discovering the cash intended for Ray. She confronts him and leaves, causing Ray to receive alarming news about Anna’s possible disappearance.

As the situation compounds, Ray panics when law enforcement arrives at his home. He binds Anna in the basement to hide his misdeeds while answering the police’s inquiries. After sustaining an injury from Anna’s makeshift weapon, Ray attempts to clarify the situation, but Anna insists she knows nothing about the whole ordeal. When he shows her the signed contract and recorded messages, she dismisses them both, creating confusion in Ray’s mind about the legitimacy of his actions.

In a moment of desperation, Ray permits Anna to leave but cunningly swallows her car keys, claiming they need to concoct an alibi to protect both themselves from the law. An outrageous turn of events follows as Anna retaliates by shooting him with a pellet gun, forcing Ray to react by trying to recover the keys he swallowed, but this results in her accidentally losing consciousness.

Eventually, Anna regains consciousness in her car, where Ray, now in control, implores her to cooperate. Their journey takes a turn as they discuss their failed marriages and delve into the accusations Ray faced from his ex-wife concerning the business. In a shocking twist, Anna sides with him against the odds but soon reverses the dynamic when she knocks him unconscious with a fire poker.

Armed with a rifle, Anna manages to take Ray hostage, insisting on controlling the situation as they head back to the city. Upon reaching their destination, Anna surprisingly thanks Ray for the experience and offers to invest in his unique business, revealing that she had willingly participated from the start. Stunned by this revelation, Ray leaves their encounter in disarray, unexpectedly running into Stuart at a restaurant. As he waves at his friend, a mix of emotions floods Ray, leading him to both tears and laughter when he notices Stuart enjoying a salad instead of his usual hamburgers.
