Gandhi Babu, Natarajan Subramaniam, is a skilled con artist who dreams of devising ingenious scams and pulling them off with perfect precision. His repertoire is as varied as it is ruthless: he sells ignorant people ordinary snakes and claims they are exotic and could fetch crores in the international market; he promotes a nonexistent multilevel marketing scheme that promises a BMW within a year through a controversial chain referral model; he excels at impersonation, insinuating himself near influential people or convincing others of near-mystical ideas like Lilliput, exotic stones, and artifacts. Yet one of his most infamous gambits is the Emu scam, where investors are promised exorbitant returns from Emu farms. Each scheme is crafted with an unsettling confidence, a show of charm and control that hides the calculating core beneath.

Bhanu, Ishara Nair, comes from a poor family and arrives to work for Gandhi, drawn in by his charisma and the possibility of a better life. She quickly falls for his charm, but Gandhi’s ambitions always outpace his softer feelings. Money, after all, sits at the top of his priorities, and this harsh truth drives him to abandon Bhanu even as he uses her presence to bolster his own image. The dynamic adds a human cost to the glittering web of scams, casting Bhanu as a poignant counterpoint to Gandhi’s relentless greed.

Gandhi’s activities draw the attention of law enforcement in a way that his early prominence cannot shield him from. He is arrested in a minor scam, but the local police fail to see the real man behind the name. The press, meanwhile, reduces the incident to a small box news item, hardly a spark in the wider city’s gaze. It is ACP Jaya Prakasham of the Chennai Police who identifies Gandhi and alerts the local authorities, opening a flood of cases against him. The pursuit is brutal and unflinching: the cops torture him in an attempt to recover money, but the evidence remains elusive, and the case drifts through the legal system.

Months pass, and the court releases Gandhi on the basis of insufficient evidence. In the meantime, his partners-in-crime betray him, making off with the bulk of the stolen money. An angry investor—fed up with waiting and losing faith in Gandhi’s assurances—hatches a grim plan: he hires Valavan and his gang to recover the funds and, if necessary, to kill Gandhi Babu. The gang tracks Gandhi to the courthouse, captures him outside, and beats him to a pulp. Yet Gandhi survives and pivots, convincing them to back another con that could be worth a billion rupees and offering them pay far beyond their expectations from their hire. Trust reappears in a brutal, transactional fashion.

Believing in his own talents, Gandhi intensifies his manipulation, arguing that a person’s greed or foolishness makes them worthy of blame. He even prescribes a cynical outlook on elections, claiming that voters are routinely conned by politicians who promise the moon but never deliver. This philosophy fuels his next move: a trap set for the very gang that has sworn loyalty to him. He sends them toward his old scam’s victim Chettiyar, knowing Chettiyar’s vigilance will trigger authorities when he recognizes danger. The gang falls into the trap and is arrested, angered by Gandhi’s calculated betrayal.

Meanwhile, Gandhi returns to Bhanu, who looks after him and eventually becomes his wife. Their life takes a dramatic turn when Bhanu becomes pregnant, a quiet reminder of what life could still mean outside the brutal chessboard of cons. The gang, freshly released from custody, returns with a grim proposition: either help them pull a bigger scam to repay their losses, or they will kill him and his wife. Gandhi agrees to cooperate, and the gang departs, leaving Dravidan behind to keep an eye on Bhanu as they head toward Madurai for one final heist.

The target is Moovendhar, a wealthy and politically connected marble and granite magnate. The gang draws him in with a sophisticated rice-pulling scam and presents him with a ritual artifact as a solution to his problems. The payoff is enormous—about ₹100 crore (roughly US$12 million)—and the exchange seems to seal their fate. But money’s march is not smooth: a fierce struggle erupts, and Gandhi ends up killing the others and returning to his wife and unborn child with the money in hand. The sight that greets him when he returns—Bhanu’s expression, a moment that crystallizes the value of life beyond wealth—proves to be the turning point. In a final, quiet act of reckoning, Gandhi surrenders the money to police custody, choosing life and family over the power of easy riches.

The film sketches a hard-edged portrait of ambition, manipulation, and consequence, tracing Gandhi Babu’s ascent and fall through a maze of scams and betrayals. It juxtaposes glittering fraud with intimate vulnerability, especially in Bhanu’s steadfast presence and the fragile future of their family.
