Vasanth Vijay is the son of a wealthy Chennai businessman who grows up with a possessive streak. In a gift shop, he spots a coveted item that has already been bought by someone else. In a burst of arrogance, he smashes it, then pays the owner to cover the damages and proclaims that if he can’t have it, nobody can. This volatile, controlling attitude marks his early choices and foreshadows the turmoil he will cause.

His story shifts to Rajasthan, where he meets Priya Kausalya and experiences love at first sight. Priya is injured in an accident, and Vasanth Kumar—a friend who donates blood—rescues her. While she’s unconscious, she only remembers the name “Vasanth Kumar,” not the face of her savior, leaving a mystery at the heart of her recovery.

After Priya regains her strength, she travels to Chennai to meet the mysterious Vasanth Kumar and remains at her uncle’s house. Meanwhile, the possessive Vasanth, determined to keep Priya at any cost, impersonates Vasanth Kumar and plays on her soft corner, all the while managing to shield her from the real Vasanth Kumar. The tension thickens when the two of them, Priya and Vasanth, head to Sathyam Theatre for a noon show; Vasanth discovers that Priya and Vasanth Kumar already know one another, and his fury leads him to demolish the ice creams meant for them.

As the triangle tightens, Vasanth Kumar learns of the romance between his friend and Priya, and Rangarajan, Priya’s father, becomes aware as well—though he remains ignorant of the possessive man’s deception. The couple travels to Jaipur to confront Rangarajan. While Priya tends to errands back home, Vasanth confronts Rangarajan, confesses the truth, and is met with rejection. In a moment of rash anger, Vasanth kills Rangarajan, only to realize his grave mistake too late. The murder triggers a police inquiry led by CBI officers Lawrence and Gopal, turning the tale into a tense investigation.

Vasanth Kumar returns to Jaipur for a long-delayed music audition, which had been missed when Vasanth helped Priya earlier. He arranges a room for him and fears the truth surfacing. He goes to the hospital where Priya was admitted and tears the certificate of admission, a chilling act that intensifies the pursuit. Vasanth Kumar confronts Vasanth, and the two men retreat to a hill station to settle their dispute. Vasanth apologizes and confesses the truth, but Vasanth Kumar harshly accuses Priya. In a fit of anger, Vasanth accidentally strikes Vasanth Kumar but makes a valiant effort to save him. With no other option, Vasanth Kumar sacrifices his life for his friend. The loss shakes Vasanth to his core, inspiring him to shed his psychopath tendencies and become a more earnest, protective partner who begins to care for Priya.

Meanwhile, Lawrence and Gopal uncover a devastating truth: the real killer of Rangarajan and Vasanth Kumar is none other than Vasanth himself. Priya learns of this revelation and runs from Jaipur in shock. Vasanth searches for her, and when she catches up with him, she reproaches him for deceiving her memory of the man who saved her life and for killing her father. She then notices an earring he had taken on his first visit to Jaipur, and he lays bare the series of events, their motivations, and the costs of his choices. Priya, moved by the depth of his love, begins to reconsider her stance. Yet the police close in, and Vasanth is shot and dies, leaving Priya to mourn the betrayal and the love that could have been.

In a final, tragic turn, as Vasanth lies wounded, Priya bursts into tears, believing he is gone. Her tears fall on his cheek, and he regains a spark of life. Priya helps him to stand, and the pair flee together, escaping the clutches of the law. The pursuing officers, Lawrence and Gopal, contemplate their own reasons for letting them go, recognizing the ache of love and the moral complexity of what they’ve witnessed. They choose not to stop them, allowing the lovers to find a fugitive solace in each other and the chance to rewrite a destiny that began with possession and ended in remorse.
