A travel mix-up at the airport forces the troupe to swap smooth flights for a run-down bus ride toward the city, and when the vehicle conks out, they end up walking in search of a cab. A local man suggests they seek shelter at the Teremok Inn, run by Devora Kasimer, Uma Thurman a former prima ballerina who now runs a tightly controlled operation and a small crime family. On Devora’s suggestion, the group stows away in the inn, trading their rain-soaked outfits for the gleam of their tutus as if the world outside could melt away into flawless arabesques. The danger beneath the surface begins to surface more clearly when, while taking Chloe to the ladies’ room, Thorna spots Devora torturing a man in her office, a brutal reminder that the inn is a front for something far more sinister.

The moment shatters when Pasha Marcovic, Tamás Szabó Sipos, impulsively shoots Thorna after she asserts herself against his drunken advances. In the chaos that follows, Devora seals the girls inside the inn’s basement and destroys their passports and cellphones, severing their links to the outside world.
