Usha, a journalist, Suhasini Maniratnam sets out to explore a troubling trend: drug abuse among college students. She decides to publish a photo feature that shines a light on the issue, hoping to spark conversation and change. The piece lands, but it triggers immediate consequences. The college suspends the students who appear in the photographs, and among them is Georgekutty, who retreats into shame and makes a desperate suicide attempt, leaving him hospitalised. The fallout ripples through campus, fueling anger and protests as the news outlet becomes a focal point of backlash.

In the midst of growing tension, a tactful police officer named Prathapan steps in to calm the situation. Mammootty portrays DYSP Prathapan, a figure who aims to de‑escalate conflicts and protect lives while navigating delicate community dynamics. His presence helps prevent further violence, but the conflict is far from over. A gang of four students, led by Damu and Appukuttan, takes a more aggressive stance. Damu Ashokan and Appukuttan Vineeth Radhakrishnan abduct Usha, confining her in Damu’s bungalow, where she endures harassment and drug injections. The act is brutal and calculated, yet Usha’s resilience begins to reveal itself as she endures and ultimately inspires sympathy and questions about the gang members’ backgrounds.

As the days unfold, Usha survives the ordeal when a fire breaks out at the bungalow, and the gang members rally around her as she falls ill. Through her conversations with the gang, she unravels the family histories of each member. Most come from financially struggling families, but Damu stands apart: a wealthy, dysfunctional upbringing with his mother confined to a mental asylum. This contrast forces everyone to confront how privilege and trauma shape choices, loyalty, and desperation. Damu’s birthday becomes a fragile turning point as he attempts suicide, a moment his friends and Usha manage to avert, yet the emotional scars linger.

Prathapan continues to probe the case, visiting the bungalow to locate Usha. During interrogation, he asserts authority, even as Usha stands up for the young men she has already helped in the past. The tension between duty and personal connections underscores the complexity of the situation, and Prathapan’s approach grows into a nuanced partnership with Usha rather than simple opposition. A mob, fuelled by anger and rumors, corners Usha and ends her life in the clash, leaving the community to mourn a life cut short and to reckon with the consequences of fear, stigma, and unchecked outrage. The film lingers on the moral weight of the choices made by institutions, individuals, and a society that grapples with how to respond to danger, perception, and truth.
