Tomura, Yosuke Eguchi was once widely lauded as a legendary patissier, a figure whose delicate balances of sweetness and craft defined a generation. But eight years before the story unfolds, he vanishes from the world of confections and, instead of returning to the pastry cases, spends his days lecturing at culinary schools and writing a guidebook for pastry critics. The film follows this quiet marginalization and the way memory and obligation tug at a man who once seemed unstoppable.

Natsume, Yu Aoi is the daughter of a Kagoshima bakery owner and arrives in Tokyo chasing a life she believes she can build with her boyfriend. She journeys across the city to find a pastry shop she’s heard about, Patisserie Coin de Rue, only to learn that her boyfriend no longer works there and that the staff are as tight-lipped as they are evasive about his whereabouts. Determined, she requests a job at the shop, hoping the apron in front of her will lead her closer to him. The store owner, Yuriko, Keiko Toda reluctantly gives her a chance when she sees Natsume’s resolve.

At Coin de Rue, Natsume works under the watchful eye of Mariko, Noriko Eguchi, a talented patissier whose high standards and sharp temper test the newcomer at every step. With the shop unable to fulfill the contract and facing penalties, Natsume fights to keep the doors open. She lobbies for a chance and, more ambitiously, persuades Tomura to take over Yuriko’s place, hoping the former star can restore the shop’s reputation. She also convinces Mariko to return to the kitchen, and together they rally to produce the pastries the party demands.

Their effort pays off. The party guests are impressed by the generosity of flavor, the precision of technique, and the sense of collaboration baked into every bite. The success rekindles a spark in Tomura’s life as well; Natsume’s perseverance opens a path for him to re-engage with the craft he once loved. The two stories intersect not just through the pastries but through a shared sense of possibility: that a kitchen can be a place where old wounds heal, and new loyalties are forged.

In the wake of Coin de Rue’s revival, Natsume earns a scholarship to study patisserie at a prestigious American university—the very place where Yuriko and Tomura once trained—marking a significant turn in her own journey. The film also brings a personal closure for Tomura, who is reunited with his wife after years apart following his daughter’s accident.
