Mithai, a dark comedy, unfolds in Hyderabad, a city that itself becomes a character in the narrative. Sai [Rahul Ramakrishna] is a techie in his mid-twenties who, unlike the stereotype of a brainy coder, is barely holding onto his job. Four days before his wedding, he is fired, a setback that pushes him toward a late-night, alcohol-fueled collaboration with his best friend [Priyadarshi Pullikonda] as Jani, a jobless street-smart alcoholic with zero ambition. After a wild night out, Sai returns home to find his door left ajar, and a thief slips in, stealing a necklace along with other possessions. This break-in sets off a chain of events that drags a mosaic of lives into a three-day crossfire of fate and chance.

Accepting a challenge from his NRI friend Krishna [Ravi Varma] who rebukes Sai for being a loser, the pair vow to nab the thief before Sai’s wedding. Deepti, a serious detective by nature who has sworn she will not marry until she solves her first case, is played by Swetaa Varma as Deepthi, a methodical friend whose calm expertise sharpens the group’s chaotic momentum.
