After his adopted son Jimmy Boy is released from prison, mob boss Sosa and his crew celebrate with a high-energy night of partying. Among them is Nick, a hard-edged loan shark whose wife Alice is having an affair with his fellow gangster Mike. Not wanting to kill anymore, Mike contemplates leaving Sosa’s organization, but he still agrees to help Nick on a dangerous job. Following Nick’s orders, Mike tries to chloroform a man he discovers is Nick himself, and he learns that the Nick who hired him is from the future, while the present-day Nick slips away.
Mike soon realizes he has been framed as the informant who betrayed Jimmy, and he becomes the target of “The Barron,” a cannibalistic assassin hired by Sosa. [Future Nick] explains that six months from that night, he attempted to collect a debt from Symon, an inventor and friend of Alice who borrowed money to build a time machine. When the device is triggered, Nick is sent back in time to the night Mike would be killed, inadvertently shooting Symon dead and destroying the machine. While Sosa, Jimmy, and their men revel in a string of parties, [Future Nick] and Mike manage to recapture Present Nick at a convenience store and bring him and Alice to Nick’s secret apartment.
Both Present and Future Nick are aware of Mike and Alice’s relationship, and they acknowledge the troubled state of their own marriages in a lighthearted dig about Gilmore Girls. Revealing that Alice is pregnant with Mike’s child, Future Nick is determined to save Mike. He lies to Sosa, claiming he has captured Mike, and lures the Barron to the apartment for an ambush. Present Nick tries to reveal the plan, but is struck with guilt when the Barron seemingly kills Mike; however, this is only a ruse: the “assassin” is actually Chet, a special effects artist recruited by Future Nick to dissuade Present Nick from seeking vengeance.
The real Barron arrives and is shot dead by Future Nick, while Alice disables his henchmen with their own grenade. Future Nick tells Sosa that Mike has killed the hitmen and gone on the run, but Sosa vows to unleash his entire organization on him. With the true identity of the informant unresolved, a beloved but now dead gangster, Mike and the others prepare to take down Sosa and all his men at Jimmy Boy’s final party.
They plant weapons through the party with the help of a corrupt officer named Sam, and a fierce showdown ensues as Present and Future Nick and a reluctant Mike wipe out Sosa’s gang. Sosa is killed by Alice, but Present Nick is shot in the neck by a dying Jimmy. The group frantically tries to keep him awake as they sing along to Oasis’s “Don’t Look Back in Anger,” but Nick succumbs before reaching the hospital. In the aftermath, Alice reveals that Symon built another time machine, and Mike activates it to give Nick a second chance.

The ending of Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice revolves around a desperate, multi-layered attempt to rewrite a tragic mistake. At the heart of the story is Nick’s profound guilt: after discovering his wife Alice was having an affair with Mike, a fellow mercenary, Nick’s jealousy led him to betray Mike to their boss, Sosa. This betrayal resulted in Mike’s death at the hands of the Barron, a cannibalistic assassin. However, upon learning that Alice was pregnant with Mike’s child, Nick was overcome with remorse. He refused to let the baby grow up without a father, so he sought out Symon, a brilliant inventor, and used his time machine to travel back to the day Mike died. This sets in motion a complex rescue mission involving Future Nick, Present Nick, Mike, and Alice, all working together to alter the course of fate.
The team’s initial plan proves flawed. Future Nick, positioned as a sniper, successfully kills the Barron, while Alice dispatches his henchmen. Future Nick then informs Sosa that Mike has fled, hoping this will call off the manhunt. The strategy backfires spectacularly; instead of standing down, Sosa places a bounty on Mike’s head, compelling every mercenary in the city to chase him. Realizing their only option is to eliminate the threat entirely, the group decides to attack Sosa and his crew at a massive party. The assault is brutal and effective—they manage to kill Sosa and his son, Jimmy Boy, dismantling the criminal enterprise. But the victory comes at a terrible cost. During the firefight, Present Nick is shot in the neck.
This injury triggers the film’s adherence to a closed-loop time travel logic, similar to Back to the Future. Because Present Nick is fatally wounded, the timeline begins to correct itself. By the time the group reaches the hospital, Present Nick has bled out, and Future Nick vanishes from existence, his timeline erased. Mike and Alice are left devastated, their hope extinguished along with Nick. The situation seems impossible to fix, as Symon—the only person who understood the time machine technology—was accidentally killed by Future Nick upon his arrival in the past, and the original machine was destroyed in the chaos.
Just when all appears lost, Alice recalls a crucial detail: Symon had built a second, prototype time machine stored in a secret unit. In the film’s final moments, Mike and Alice rush to uncover this last resort. Because the prototype only has room for one passenger, Mike steps inside and attempts to journey back, hoping to save Nick from his fatal wound. The ending remains deliberately ambiguous, leaving the audience to wonder if the untested machine actually works. The story concludes not with a definitive fix, but with a powerful act of loyalty and reciprocity. Despite Nick’s initial act of betrayal, his selfless sacrifice inspired Mike and Alice to risk everything to save him in return, underscoring the film’s central theme: we may not have the luxury of time travel to correct our errors, but we do have the capacity for regret, reparation, and choosing to act with love before it is too late.
