The second wife’s children live under Jayakkodi’s more visible affection, and he prefers to share his life with them, a choice that sows quiet resentment in Sevanamma’s camp. The elder son of Sevanamma’s side, Boologarasa, stands out as the only member of the first family who shows any warmth toward his step-siblings, especially Parthiban and Ammu, but his influence remains limited as he struggles against his mother’s authority and his maternal uncle’s scheming. The caste divide in the village looms large: Jayakkodi’s second family is seen as lower in social rank, and that prejudice compounds the rift between the two branches of the same bloodline.

In the foreground of this brewing storm is Ponram, a newly wealthy man from the same village and caste, who aims to supplant Jayakkodi as the village’s most respected figure. After being outdone in temple donations, Ponram shifts gears to contest land tenders for the forest department, a contest in which Veera and his faction play a decisive role. When Jayakkodi arrives at the tender, Veera withdraws out of apparent respect, yet Ponram ends up losing the bid to him, broadening the animosity between families. The tension escalates when Ponram’s younger brother insults Jayakkodi; that night Veera and his sons brutally kill him. Jayakkodi attends Ponram’s brother’s funeral to pay his respects, and a heated altercation between Ponram and Parthiban erupts. The arrest of Jayakkodi and Parthiban follows, but Veera comes to their rescue through a connected lawyer, moderating the immediate danger and letting the relatives walk free. Ponram swears vengeance on Jayakkodi’s entire lineage, setting the stage for a long, dark feud.

Amidst the political and familial jockeying, Parthiban develops an earnest affection for a Malayali girl named Ritu, who the young man meets at his sister’s nursing college and later agrees to let stay at his home because of hostel ragging issues. Jayakkodi also pushes ahead with Ammu’s marriage plans, arranging a match with a relative’s son, only to see caste pressures from Veera derail that arrangement. Undeterred, Jayakkodi arranges a grand wedding for Ammu with a groom from his own caste in Tanjore, signaling his commitment to preserving the family’s standing even as social norms threaten to fracture it. Ritu leaves town to pursue a master’s degree, and when Parthiban confesses his love to her in a bus stop moments before she departs, she remains silent, leaving their budding romance unresolved for the moment.

Tragedy strikes when Jayakkodi dies suddenly, succumbing to a heart attack the following night. Veera’s faction mobilizes to bring Jayakkodi’s body back to Sevanamma’s house, while Boologarasa invites his stepmother and half-siblings to pay their respects. Veera, resentful and protective of his sister’s memory, threatens a village boycott if they attend, effectively excluding the second wife’s family from the funeral rituals. The second family grieves in isolation, cut off from the customary rites that might acknowledge their place in Jayakkodi’s life.

Boologarasa, driven by a sense of guilt for excluding his stepfamily, invites Parthiban to the 16th-day ritual honoring their father. After a hesitant start, Parthiban agrees to attend, and Boologarasa needles Veera’s sons for their impotence in defending their father’s legacy. The confrontation turns violent when one of Veera’s sons attempts to stab Boologarasa; Parthiban pushes the aggressor away, the son falls on a knife, and dies. Parthiban flees as his brother and the rest of the family attempt to control the onslaught of revenge-seeking cousins. Veera and his remaining kin vow to eliminate Parthiban, and the seeds of a brutal plan are sown.

Sevanamma, who had initially understood that Parthiban acted to protect her son, helps to shield Parthiban’s mother as the danger grows. Parthiban seeks refuge with Ritu’s family in Kerala for a time, but the net tightens when Ponram’s agents track him down, forcing him back onto the streets. Sevanamma then confronts Veera with a brutal strategy: she lures Parthiban out by poisoning Parthiban’s mother, who had been living with him. This cruel act brings Parthiban face-to-face with the specter of his mother’s death and ends ritualistic mourning for the family.

Parthiban’s fate becomes a direct target for Veera and his surviving kin, who lock him inside a house and prepare for a deadly confrontation. Despite being outnumbered, Parthiban fights back with fierce resolve, finally overpowering his cousins. One of Veera’s sons escapes and pleads with Veera to finish Parthiban. Veera climbs the house with a sickle and plunges it at Parthiban’s neck, delivering a fatal blow as Parthiban dies gazing at Sevanamma. The entire family is left reeling as Veera and his sons are arrested for murder, and Sevanamma is left crying while wiping the blood away, a powerful tableau that marks the collapse of a family’s held-together facade and the end of this long, brutal feud.

In the aftermath, the village bears witness to the consequences of unchecked power, caste prejudice, and family loyalty run amok. The reckoning is swift and devastating, with Veera and his kin facing justice for their acts, while Sevanamma is left to confront the personal cost of a life spent navigating violence and control. The story closes on a somber note, underscoring how prestige and tradition can mask violent frictions that ultimately fracture the very families that once stood as pillars of the village.
