On the same day, a stranger arrives and asks to stay the night. Arjunan brings with him a calm, confident air that both unsettles and comforts the family. He quickly learns of their money worries and the droughts that have crippled their ability to secure Mallika’s marriage. To show he has real opportunity on his side, he unveils a box full of money and jewels, claiming that his luck has shifted through hard work and resolve, and that their fortunes could change if they seize this chance. The glint of wealth is tempting, and Mallika, drawn by wealth and Arjunan’s charm, finds herself drawn to him, a reaction that does not go unnoticed by the skeptical parents.

In the wake of the deed, Karuppusamy slips away to the nearest liquor shop, hoping to hide from the consequences of their action. A sympathetic bar boy reveals a troubling truth about Arjunan, sending shockwaves through the household. Karuppusamy rushes back with the weight of a terrible revelation: Arjunan is none other than their long-lost son Karunakaran, who had disappeared when he was ten years old and had since risen to a life of hard-earned independence. The revelation jolts the family to its core, transforming a crime of desperation into a brutal reckoning with the past.

Arjunan had returned to reconnect after years of labor and self-discipline, asking about his family to the bar owner and the bar boy before he finally came home to see them. The truth devastates the household, coloring every memory with doubt and sorrow. In a final act of shared despair, the family drinks the poison meant for Karunakaran, a futile attempt to end their collective pain. Karuppusamy, unable to bear the ruin, sets the house aflame, using the cotton around him to fuel the fire as he burns with it, choosing a final, self-sacrificial end over a life bound to deceit and ruin.

The film closes with an in-credits voiceover that echoes Karunakaran’s diary entry, written before he slept that night. He resolves to leave the money and jewels at the house and depart as a stranger come morning, originally intending a harmless prank to hide his identity for a day.
