33-year-old Lotte Yolanthe Cabau works as a producer for the TV channel Regio Fun in the A’DAM Toren, where her boyfriend Alex Juvat Westendorp hosts his own talk show. She has been with him for five years and, true to her romantic nature, hopes for a marriage proposal that never seems to come. The studio has been struggling with declining ratings, so Lotte pours herself into a new pitch that could become a breakthrough program. Fritz, the editor-in-chief, brings in Chris Jim Bakkum as a creative and commercial brain to pump life back into the channel.

Lotte isn’t thrilled about Chris’s heavy-handed, commercial ideas. Meanwhile, Alex takes credit for her pitch, and their relationship collapses live on television. With no home to call her own, Lotte moves in with her sister Estelle Noortje Herlaar. Estelle is a successful, flashy influencer who becomes engaged to Lotte’s boss John Edwin Jonker. She asks Lotte and their friend Kim Pip Pellens to help pull off the wedding. Although Lotte resents Estelle for running off with her boss and is wary about the upcoming wedding, she goes along with the plan.

During a taping of a TV program Lotte produces, the usual presenter Beau is unavailable at the last moment, so Lotte steps in as host at Chris’s urging. She discovers she has a natural talent for presenting, and the ratings soar. Chris sees a potential ratings boost in Lotte and proposes a deal: he’ll help her win back Alex if she continues to present for him. To sweeten the arrangement, he arranges a makeover that suddenly makes Lotte a visible, talked-about figure.

As time passes, Lotte and Chris grow closer, while Alex’s career continues to slide downward and his show is canceled. Desperate, he asks Lotte to marry him. She hesitates and initially resists, but she gives their relationship a second chance. On the eve of Estelle’s wedding, Lotte uncovers that Alex is having an affair with Kim, knowledge that Estelle already suspects. Lotte confronts her sister at the ceremony, and the wedding is called off. In the end, Lotte and Estelle put their differences aside, and Estelle goes ahead with John. Chris makes a brief guest appearance at the wedding and ends the night with a kiss to Lotte.
