Tyler saves Marla from overdose

Tyler admits to orchestrating the explosion that destroyed the Narrator’s apartment and then abruptly disappears, leaving the Narrator to grapple with the chaos he's helped create. This marks a turning point, as he begins to realize Tyler is more than just a friend.

Bob’s death and realization of dual personalities

During the escalation of Project Mayhem, Bob is killed by police during a mission, intensifying the chaos. The Narrator discovers that Tyler and he are the same person, split personalities, as his internal conflict becomes undeniable. This revelation explains the unpredictable and destructive behavior tied to Tyler’s persona.

Stopping Project Mayhem

Learning that Project Mayhem plans to destroy credit card company headquarters by blowing up their buildings, the Narrator tries to warn Marla and intervene. However, Tyler’s influence prevents him from disarming the explosives, escalating the threat of nationwide chaos. His attempt to stop the destruction becomes a desperate fight within himself.

Final confrontation and Tyler’s destruction

In a final act of self-sacrifice, the Narrator shoots himself in the mouth, killing Tyler and symbolically ending his alter ego. As he collapses, he witnesses the buildings targeted by Project Mayhem start to collapse, signifying the destruction of Tyler’s influence and his own liberation. Marla arrives to support him amidst the chaos.
