But a looming war forces the palace to flee; when the attackers strike, several maids and the Sheikh’s wife are killed, yet Amelia and Ahmed manage to escape through a secret door, aided by Boyong Jhong Hilario the driver, who helps them reach a distant hiding place.

Later, horsemen ride in and take Ahmed away. With the help of the government, Amelia returns home and starts her own business, gradually building a life of independence and stability.
