He arrives at a house not far from Los Angeles that was once owned by an old-time movie star, and is now in the hands of Seth. The property is a troubling sight—lawn unmowed for weeks, a front yard fountain clogged with dead fish—yet the group rejoins the gathering inside, drinking wine and dancing as a ceremony unfolds. Marcie steps outside for a cigarette break and, drawn by a sense that something isn’t right, she notices the eye on the doorknob and the strange aura that surrounds the place. The Stranger, who has been shadowing Seth, warns her that appearances are deceiving, that truth hides not at the end of a road but inside those who walk the road.

Inside, Seth begins a ritual with candles and a ritual dance, the participants animated by song and smoke, their foreheads being marked with wine from his chalice. As he closes in with a kiss for each of the hippies, the pendant around his neck—the Ouroboros pendant—glows, and one by one they collapse dead to the floor. When it is Marcie’s turn, the Stranger’s warning feels suddenly urgent, and she narrowly escapes being drawn into the same fate. The Stranger reveals the ravenous truth: Seth is a soul-eating vampire whose immortality depends on the very pendant he wears.
