Cold Feet 2019

Denis is an aimless, young man from Munich, struggling to make ends meet while living with his single mother and siblings, who lack respect for him. Pressured by the gangster Adam to repay his debts, Denis finds himself compelled to break into a luxurious villa owned by Raimund Groenert, a wealthy entrepreneur recovering from a stroke in the hospital. However, an unexpected turn of events has Raimund discharged early—he is now home alone when Denis arrives.

In a twist of fate, Denis discovers Raimund on the floor and helps him back into his wheelchair. Just then, Raimund’s granddaughter, Charlotte, appears. Aspiring to be a police officer, Charlotte believes Denis is the new nurse hired to care for her grandfather until a professional caregiver can come in. Caught in this mix-up, Denis chooses to play along, especially since a police officer, a friend of Groenert, is also present. Unfortunately for Denis, his plans to slip away that evening are thwarted by Groenert’s dog, leaving him trapped inside the villa as a fierce snowstorm rages outside.

On one hand, Charlotte remains blissfully unaware of Denis’s ulterior motives, while Raimund, although unable to speak, sees right through him. This leads to a tense cat-and-mouse game where Denis has to navigate his criminal troubles, become a reluctant caregiver, and confront his burgeoning feelings for Charlotte. As time passes, Denis manages to reach out to Adam for help, but Adam doesn’t believe him, suspecting that Denis has gone rogue.

In the midst of this emotional complexity, Denis and Charlotte form a bond after he warns her about her self-serving boyfriend and assists her in mending her strained relationship with Raimund, whom she hadn’t visited in a decade. After Denis gets a power generator running, Charlotte listens to a voicemail from the real caregiver, which leads her to knock Denis unconscious. Upon regaining consciousness, he reveals everything to her, and with the relentless snowstorm keeping them stuck inside, they decide to call a truce.

When the storm clears, Denis prepares to leave, only to present Charlotte with a box of thoughtful gifts from her grandfather, demonstrating that he has been thinking of her all these years. However, a chance encounter with Adam and his bodyguard on the way out prompts Denis to rush back to the villa to warn Charlotte. Unfortunately, he arrives too late, as she and Raimund have been taken hostage in a desperate bid to access a safe that Denis inadvertently mentioned during his phone call.

Using clever sign language, Denis manages to extract the safe combination from Raimund, and just as things take a turn for the worse, Charlotte is kidnapped by Adam, leaving Denis locked away in the basement. With Raimund’s help, Denis ultimately breaks free, armed with a shotgun, and the duo embarks on a snowy pursuit of the kidnappers. After an intense chase that culminates in a crash with a snowplow, Denis manages to rescue Charlotte, but not without sustaining injuries himself.

In the aftermath, Charlotte and Raimund choose not to press charges for Denis’s earlier break-in. Days later, he finds himself back at home, where his mother reveals that she brokered a deal with the judge for him to serve three months of community service instead of going to prison. Though relieved by this outcome, Denis understands that his new sentence includes continuing his role as Raimund’s caregiver—a surprising twist to the path ahead.
