Chaman Bahaar 2020

The story unfolds in the quaint town of Lormi, located in Chhattisgarh, and centers around Prem Kumar Yadav, better known as Billu. Billu operates a small paan shop named Chaman Bahaar, a venture he embarks upon after leaving his previous job as a forest guard, which ended after a terrifying encounter with a bear. With hopes of building a prosperous business, Billu purchases the shop from his friend Dinesh, yet he faces an uphill battle, as the relocation of the district headquarters to Mungeli drains the traffic from his area, leaving him with minimal customers.

Everything changes when a government sub-engineer, along with his family, moves into a residence directly across from Billu’s shop. The daughter, Rinku, played by Ritika Badiani, quickly becomes the center of attention for many young locals. This newfound interest transforms Billu’s paan shop from a deserted place into a bustling hub, as the young men gather to catch glimpses of Rinku whenever she comes and goes. Billu, despite never having a conversation with her, becomes infatuated, interpreting her mundane actions as potential signs of reciprocated feelings.

As Rinku continues to draw more attention, tensions rise with local youths and rival factions. Two frequent patrons of Billu’s shop, Somu and Chhotu, inform the local tough guy Ashu about Rinku, prompting Ashu to establish a carrom club at the shop. Ashu’s aim is to create a gathering spot while fending off interference from another local politician, Shiladitya “Shila” Tiwari, portrayed by Alam Khan. Meanwhile, Billu’s obsession deepens, leading him to plan a way to confess his feelings to Rinku by gifting her a card.

However, when it’s time to deliver the card, Billu falters and ends up throwing it towards her house from a distance. This act catches the attention of Rinku’s father, who becomes suspicious and questions Billu about the card. In a bid to avoid conflict, Billu falsely claims that it was thrown by other boys on a motorcycle. Subsequently, Rinku’s father enlists the help of police inspector Bhadauria to look into the matter, resulting in an encounter where Billu is assaulted and made to apologize for the commotion outside his shop, leading to his humiliation.

Facing pressure at home to marry, Billu is instead consumed by thoughts of Rinku. In his frustration, he begins defacing currency notes and putting up derogatory messages about her around town. This erratic behavior draws the ire of the local trader, leading to yet another confrontation with Bhadauria, who beats Billu and destroys his shop. While Billu ends up in jail, Shila takes advantage of the situation to garner political favor by condemning the police’s actions as brutality, calling for inspector Bhadauria’s transfer.

Fortunately, Rinku’s father, understanding the impact of the events on Billu’s life, intervenes to help him secure his release. After his brief captivity, Billu visits Rinku’s family, where her parents express their regrets about the incidents and inform him of their plans to leave for Bilaspur. In a bittersweet gesture, Billu presents Rinku’s father with chocolates intended for Rinku, all the while never having established a personal connection with her.

In the aftermath, supporters of Shila assist in re-establishing Billu’s shop, but without Rinku’s presence, business falters once more. As time passes, a new family moves into the house opposite Billu’s shop, once again capturing the eyes of the local youth, setting the stage for an ongoing cycle of infatuation and social dynamics in this small town.
