Epidemic prompts a village ritual

An epidemic torments the village, and the priests call for a fair and worship of Ammoru to end it. During the festival night, an old lady visits and asks the women for prasadam; only one kind-hearted young woman offers it. The old lady leaves with a neem potion and instructs the woman to sprinkle it in front of every house to halt the plague.

A goddess revealed; a fatal promise

The young woman departs with the potion but returns to feed the guest. Looking through the window, she sees the old lady sitting inside as the goddess Ammoru. Remembering the promise, she sacrifices herself by jumping into a well to keep Ammoru there forever.

Ammoru becomes permanent guardian

The goddess remains in the village as a statue after the young woman's death. A temple is built around the idol to enshrine Ammoru for the village's protection.

Bhavani reports Ghorakh; arrest follows

Bhavani, a devoted follower, informs the police about Ghorakh, a sorcerer who killed a girl by burying her alive. As a result, Ghorakh is arrested, removing a potent threat from the village.

Revenge cooked by Leelamma

Ghorakh's sister Leelamma and her family torment Bhavani in retaliation for his arrest. The cruelty escalates as Bhavani endures their schemes while remaining devoted to Ammoru.

Bhavani marries Surya

In a turn of events, Bhavani is married to Surya, a kind-hearted doctor who is Ghorakh's nephew. While Surya travels to the USA on business, Leelamma's plots intensify back home.

Papa the goddess protects Bhavani

Goddess Ammoru descends once more and protects Bhavani by taking the form of a little girl named Papa. She kills Leelamma's creditor and begins disciplining Leelamma's family to defend Bhavani.

Loyal servant recognizes Papa

Leelamma's servant realizes that Papa is actually Ammoru and remains loyal to her. This awareness reinforces the goddess's protection over Bhavani.

Surya returns; a ruse to expose Bhavani

Surya returns from the USA, and Leelamma accuses Bhavani of an illicit relationship by staging an encounter in their bedroom. Papa then switches Leelamma's daughter in place of Bhavani's, and Ammoru arranges for the girl to be married to that man.

Ghorakh's release and poisoning attempt

Ghorakh is released from jail due to his epilepsy and resumes his vendetta against Bhavani. He attempts to poison Bhavani as she is pregnant, but Ammoru, in Papa's form, intervenes to protect mother and child.

Birth of Bhavani's daughter

With Papa protecting her, Bhavani gives birth to a baby daughter. Goddess Ammoru's intervention ensures the birth is safe and blessed.

Ghorakh uncovers Papa's identity

Ghorakh discovers that the little girl Papa is actually Ammoru, a virtuous spirit thwarting his plans. His power wanes in the face of the goddess's divine intervention.

Ghorakh's trick and the infant's murder

Ghorakh manipulates Bhavani into dismissing Papa from her side. He then kills Bhavani's infant daughter and tortures Surya with the evil spirit Chanda.

Bottu births Ammoru's return

Bhavani presses her hand on Ammoru's trident and bleeds, creating a bottu on the goddess's forehead and triggering Ammoru's return. The ritual sign marks the goddess's readiness to combat evil once more.
