What Is Aftershock About?
The premise of Aftershock in 282 words, with nothing given away. The full story follows below.
In the ashes of what was once a thriving civilization, the world has been reshaped into a stark landscape where power is the only law. Towering relics of technology loom over crumbling streets, while citizens bear permanent bar‑code tattoos that mark them as part of a rigid, fascist order. A grim chorus of propaganda drifts from a ubiquitous radio voice known as Big Sister, reinforcing the regime’s unyielding grip. The streets pulse with the cold efficiency of paramilitary patrols, and every whisper of dissent is swallowed by the ever‑watchful eyes of a government that tolerates no open questioning.
At the heart of this oppressive society stands Commander Eastern, a stoic leader whose authority is both feared and accepted in equal measure. Opposing him, Colonel Slater heads a fledgling resistance, drawing together those who refuse to submit completely to the regime’s doctrine. Among the rebels are Willie and Danny, two restless souls whose restless energy hints at a deeper yearning for freedom. The interactions between the disciplined command and the fiery insurgents create a charged undercurrent, each side aware that the balance of power is as fragile as the cracked concrete beneath their boots.
Into this volatile tableau arrives Sabrina, an extraterrestrial observer whose arrival is as sudden as it is bewildering. She absorbs an entire Earth dictionary in moments, gaining a functional grasp of English while retaining an alien perspective that sets her apart from both the oppressors and the oppressed. As she navigates a world split between tentative kindness and palpable hostility, her presence becomes a catalyst for curiosity and tension, offering a glimmer of hope—or perhaps a new source of conflict—in a universe that has already known too much destruction.

After an event that appears to have been World War III, Commander Eastern Richard Lynch becomes the leader of a futuristic, post-apocalyptic society. The regime is fascist, citizens bear a bar code tattoo, and they no longer openly question their rulers. A radio host called “Big Sister” supports the fascists, while paramilitary groups patrol the city.
A group of rebels, led by Col. Slater [Christopher Mitchum], seeks to end fascist rule. Willie [Jay Roberts Jr.] and Danny [Chuck Jeffries] are two of those imprisoned for being troublemakers. An alien Sabrina [Elizabeth Kaitan], who has been observing Earth from afar, arrives on the planet and becomes entangled in the conflict. Lacking full English, she cannot answer questions as she is interrogated by Oliver Quinn [John Saxon], the leader of the paramilitary.
Sabrina explains, in broken English, that her people intercepted a NASA probe and misinterpreted the data as evidence that Earth harbors an idealist society. She traveled to Earth hoping to find ways to improve her own world.
To return home, Sabrina must reach her landing site and use an energy cycle to travel back to her planet. After Sabrina, Willie, and Danny break out of prison, they head to the rebels’ headquarters as Quinn plans an assault on the rebel base.
Sabrina is captured by a bounty hunter Chris DeRose, who hands her to Quinn. She escapes again. As the rebels regroup and Sabrina gets their computers working, they stage an attack on the fascist forces. Sabrina returns home, and the rebels vow to continue fighting.
