Sengodan desires Abhirami

King Sengodan covets Abhirami, who is a princess at the start of the tale. This unfulfilled desire sows the seeds for the later clash between their kingdoms. The political and personal tension begins to simmer, setting the stage for future conflict.

Abhirami becomes queen; Sengodan declares love

Years pass and Abhirami is now a queen and married to another. When Sengodan spots her again, he openly declares his love for her. Abhirami refuses, telling him that she is already a mother.

Sengodan's attack on Abhirami's infant; Abhirami defends

Sengodan tries to kill Abhirami's infant son, Prince Vengaiyan. In the struggle, Abhirami slashes Sengodan's leg to stop him. The act escalates the feud and marks a decisive turning point.

Vengaiyan's father seeks justice; a duel is arranged

King Vengaiyan of the Vengaiya mount kingdom travels to Sengodan's country to seek justice for the attack on his family. Sengodan agrees to a formal duel to resolve the dispute.

The net duel; Vengaiyan is victorious but killed

The duel takes place on a net suspended over spears, with the fighters unable to abandon their weapons. Vengaiyan, bound by his own leg, wins the contest, but Sengodan kills him afterwards.

Aftermath: seizure and enslavement

Sengodan orders his men to seize the country and summons the queen and her son. The king's aide escapes and saves the queen, but Vengaiyan is captured and all women are enslaved.

Aide's capture and Jeeva's promise

The king's aide is imprisoned and meets a broken Vengaiyan living in a two-foot-high cell. They escape by the river, and the aide dies in Jeeva's arms after she vows to heal Vengaiyan and abolish slavery.

Jeeva trains Vengaiyan

Jeeva takes Vengaiyan to her hut, teaching him to speak, write, and fight. Vengaiyan begins to understand that he is a prince, but his years of confinement have left him with a bent spine.

Vengaiyan regains purpose; saves a girl

While aiding a girl bound between heavy planks, Vengaiyan's spine straightens and he can stand normally. Jeeva explains what he must do and helps him reconnect with his royal identity.

Vengaiyan vows to free the country

Vengaiyan learns his mother is alive, and he vows to free the country from Sengodan's enslavement. With Jeeva and their growing circle, he begins to organize resistance and fight for liberation.

Magudapathy's arrival and plot

During early clashes to liberate people, Vengaiyan meets Magudapathy, the Pavala kingdom's leader who is related to Sengodan. He is astonished by Jeeva's resemblance to his queen and hatches a plot to replace the queen with Jeeva and seize control.

Pavalavalli trial and release

Pavalavalli, who is Jeeva's sister, presides over the prince's trial. She is attracted to him and orders his release, then assigns him as her bodyguard.

Poison plan thwarted; Jeeva impersonates the queen

The commander schemes to kill the prince and queen with a poisoned drink at a party, but a magician helps thwart the plan. Jeeva impersonates the queen so she and Vengaiyan can be freed and return to their country.
