Two military cadets, Bai Lede and Hu Luting, have been friends since childhood, a bond that runs through every choice they make and colors the world around them with duty, desire, and looming consequence. After graduation, [Hu Luting] finds himself posted as a captain in Guangdong, a move that takes him far from his Shanghai home and from the easy ease of friendship he shared with Bai. Back in Shanghai, Bai’s father leverages clout to secure Bai’s transfer to Guangdong, a move that reshapes the arc of every character involved. After a sorrowful farewell with Hu Zhuli, Bai arrives at his new post and is instantly drawn to Shi Luohua, the General’s daughter. In his pursuit, Bai commits a grave misstep: he betrays his friend by informing General Shi of Hu’s elopement plans with Shi Luohua, prompting the General to discharge Hu in dishonor. This act fractures the trust that bound Bai and Hu and plants a heavy seed of guilt in Bai’s heart.

Despite the rift, Bai presses forward, trying to win Shi Luohua’s affection, yet she remains emotionally tethered to Hu, mourning the loss of the man she loves.
