His investigations lead him to a chilling finding: the chickens are dead, and the evidence points to grave risks in the project. He digs through Jacob’s computer, unearths information that reveals the project’s dangerous potential, and prints it out. He boxes the information and places it in the trunk of his car, intending to share it with Sophie. He attempts to contact her, but Sophie’s anxiety deepens when she learns that Eddie—whom she trusted earlier—works as a cop for Clonestra, a GMO corporation with substantial influence over Iowa. Her fear and anger mount, and she refuses to engage with Serge’s message at that moment. Serge, determined to warn others, heads toward Sophie’s home with the intent to reveal what he has found, but tragedy strikes when two of Eddie’s associates drive him off the interstate; his car flips, and Serge is killed in the crash.

The narrative expands from personal peril to corporate responsibility and public protest. After Serge’s death makes headlines, Sophie visits Serge’s widow, who shares a devastating family history: Serge’s grandfather, a farmer in India, had grown GMO corn using seeds supplied by Clonestra, a venture that decimated the local crops and drove farmers to suicide in protest. This revelation intensifies Sophie’s resolve. She travels to a scrap-metal yard where Serge’s car once stood and retrieves the box of information. With Eddie’s help, she delivers the material to Clonestra, and the response from the corporate leadership is swift and decisive: CEO Dan Conoway resigns in the wake of the disclosures. The actions of Kristin, who posts a YouTube message explaining why GM foods should be labeled, amplify the pressure and contribute to the shifting landscape in which the corporation must answer for its practices.

The film closes on a tense, uneasy note about everyday life amid high-stakes revelations. Some time after the upheaval, Sophie, Garret, Kristin, Eddie, and Eddie’s young son Tommy attend a football game. As the crowd munches on familiar stadium fare—hot dogs, popcorn, and other snacks—Sophie experiences a powerful wave of anxiety, her pulse racing as she confronts the contrast between the ordinary pleasures of life and the perilous, unseen forces that shaped them.
